Statement on April 29 Mass Shooting
Last night, our city was shaken by a horrific act of gun violence that claimed the lives of three of our neighbors and left others fighting for their lives. My heart is with the victims, their families, and everyone in the community who woke up today feeling fear and grief.
Let us never normalize this level of violence. Let us never become numb to this kind of loss.
My hope is that in the future we can act—not only after tragedy, but before it. That means building trust between neighborhoods and law enforcement, and addressing the root causes that allow this violence to take hold in the first place.
When entire blocks feel abandoned, when youth have enough places to turn, and when guns are easier to find than mental health support—we all lose.
Safety doesn’t start with sirens—it starts with opportunity, connection, and care.
Minneapolis deserves a future where every resident feels safe—on every block, every night.
My heart is with you, with the victims, their loved ones and every being that is affected by this tragedy.
